The Westside Tennis Center was constructed to host the Men’s Clay Court Championship Tournament and the Men’s U.S. Tennis Finals. The structure was a very complex facility, with all sides of the stadium having different design requirements and geometry. The project site was completely surrounded by existing structures and tennis courts.  This, along with the poor soil conditions, made access in and around the site very difficult. At one point, the schedule demanded that construction actually be stopped for several weeks so that tennis tournaments could be played on the adjoining courts. However, the stadium was opened on time and within budget for the 2003 Tennis Finals.
